• Ajax.org packager

After long delays and postpones the Ajax.org packager is finally ready!!!!

I am really excited since it was a long project for me with many things happening in between, like the update of the Ajax.org platform in 3.0 version.

My goal in this post is to present and explain the functionality of the Packager.

    packager

    So what it is:

The packager is a small web app that runs inside the Ajax.org website, helps you pack your Ajax.org application and creates for you a custom yui compressed apf file.

You can take a look at Ajax.org packager.

You can also watch this video tutorial to get a taste of the packager.

So as you can see there is a bar on top of the download sections, which says “APF Packager”.

    packager_1

You first choose the version of Ajax.org platform you want to use. (I recommend using Apf 3.0 or the Nightly builds)

    packager 2

Next step is to choose the skin you want to include in your build. Currently there are only two skins available the default platform skin (is the one that is used in the demos in Ajax.org) and the Aristo skin from Sofa.

    packager 3

After that, you’ll be taken to the step where you can include (if you want) the files of your application. Either by pasting, uploading individual files or a zipped one.

    packager 4

Then you can go to the next step where you see a tree with all the elements of Apf. If you have included any files or code you will notice that some elements are already selected for you; these are the required chunks of code for your inclusions to work. You can also navigate a bit and get extra information for each element of Apf as well as the dependency that has from other elements.

    packager 5

And if you are done with that, you can press download and in a few seconds you will get the browser’s download dialog and your custom Apf code will be ready for deployment.

    So enjoy..

PS: I would like to note that the packager is an Alpha release which means that there are bugs and features that are missing. Which also means that if you find something please please be kind enough and report it either here or with the “report a bug” form in the packager.
